The Importance of Sleep Health

We recently asked our Gloworx community how much sleep they’re getting… and here’s what you told us:

  • 64% of people get 6–8 hours of sleep (Optimal sleep window for adults)
  • 36% of people get less than 6 hours (Not enough and affects overall health)
  • Most of us are night owls and rely on alarms to wake up

It's no wonder many of us feel tired, with many factors being the pressure to meet deadlines at work, the constant juggles of parenting, having the household organised and still trying to spend time with loved ones.

We've all got a lot going on in our day, it's hard to stay on top of things and even harder with less sleep. Which is why prioritising our sleep is crucial.

The good news is: small changes can make a huge difference to sleep quality. Here are some simple options to help you:

  • Get natural light on your face in the morning - This helps reset the body clock *Source - Dr Huberman
  • Make time for light excersize, a walk around the block, getting in the garden, mowing the lawns. It doesn't have to be strenuous.
  • Balance your diet. Most of us need coffee to survive in the mornings but sugar and caffeine before bed can send your body into overdrive.
  • Use simple breathing excersizes like box breathing, breath the four sides of a box and exhale the same. Or balloon breathing, a big inhale through the nose, slow exhale like blowing up a balloon. This is a good tip for slowing the kids down too.
  • Get all the stagnant energy out of your body by doing light stretches.
  • Swap your phone for a book after a long day. Focusing on reading will make your brain feel tired, this will help you fall asleep over the bright lights and stimulation on your phone.

New sleep habits take time to adjust, but with persistence and that extra bit of sleep, you'll feel more energised, have more patience, generally happier and show up as a better version of you.

When we sleep well the whole family thrives.

Do something for yourself and prioritise sleep.
